My Workout is Better than Yours! {sarcastic tone}

Can’t we just be happy being Active?

My Workout is Better than Yours! {sarcastic tone} should be sung, like My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard… fun right? Anyway, it’s been on my mind for a while now, this attitude that one workout is better than that one, what you do is better than what I do, and really? I just want to say, shouldn’t we all just be happy we are active?

You’ve seen it, the images pitting Zumba vs CrossFit, the ‘real’ runners, Ultra or nothing, the triathletes with 70.3 or more… the haters, the elitists, and the whiners. I say, do what ever it is you love, what ever it is that gets your ass moving, keeps you active and motivates you to get out of bed in the morning.

MixItUp

Do what you enjoy & it will never feel like WORK

I have, at some point in life, been involved with running, triathlons, karate, softball, golf, CrossFit, swimming, frisbee, volleyball, spinning, group fitness, bootcamp (the real Army one!) and the occasional go at the hula hoop – and you know what? I enjoyed them all.

It pains me to see people ragging on others because they don’t enjoy the same workout regime. I have tried Yoga, and Zumba, but they weren’t really for me. I looked like I was having a seizure in Zumba, it was still fun, just not my thing – kinda like back in the 90′s when I tried Jazzercise (aside from being 20 years younger than everyone), I lack the key element of rhythm. Does it mean I’ll never try it out again? No. Does that mean those things aren’t for you? No! Does it mean you don’t work your ass of? Hell No! Everyone has something they rock at, and as different as we all are in many facets of life, how we break a sweat, get our caloric burn on, and chose to move, well it varies too. Sometimes you develop and grow into new aspects of fitness. I was big into running, and triathlons, and home videos (ie Fitness, no gutter minds!)… I certainly don’t hate on those things because right now my focus is CrossFit (and I just started WestSide which is also awesome) – it’s about goals, priorities and what tickles our fancies.

I have read a lot of hate on CrossFit, and it kind of sucks to put it out there all honest & straight. I’m not going to defend my obsession with it, I will say this, it works for me and because I enjoy it, I am motivated to keep going. Sometimes people will say, “I could never do it” and I say, sure you can, but it’s not for everyone. Try many things, and find what works for you.

The spice of life is in the living of it – trying new things, expanding your horizons and learning through experience. So before you trash someone for being a runner, triathlete, mountain climber, crossfitter, zumbathoner, yogi, or whatever else, just remember, we are all individuals, unique in so many ways.

No one workout is the end all be all – at the end of the day, it is about what fits you, your goals, and your life. Chances are things will change over time and you will likely develop new passions, which is awesome and keeps life interesting. Just because you are not a fan of a sport/workout/activity, doesn’t mean you should hate on it. It could be what motivates someone else to start moving, being active, getting healthy. Hating never helps any situation and not for nothing, I’m pretty sure hating doesn’t burn calories.

Totally agree with you!! I have to tell you the truth, I don’t quite get crossfit, but I only tried it once and it was a class full of people that had never tried it before…. so that may be why :)

Review: Eat Smart Bathroom Scale

REVIEW: EatSmart Precision Tracker Digital Bathroom Scale w/ 400 lb. Capacity and EatSmart AccuTrack Software

I was sent this scale to review, and I’m a little behind on doing so, but greatness takes time…actually, getting anything done takes time & sometimes, I just don’t have it…time that is.

Without further a-due…
When looking at a product, I try to develop what the key points are, for an informative, objective, and in depth (without being boring) review. For this scale, I have broken it down into 5 categories, Arrival, Aesthetics, Accuracy, Affordability, and finally, Additionals, which are extra note worthy facts/observations, etc.

Inner packaging shown

Arrival
The product was shipped Fed Ex, not sure if everyone would get it that way but it’s how it came to me. The packaging was ample, and the scale was encased in plastic to protect the screen. It arrived without visual damage to the packaging or product. The scale comes with an easy to follow instructional guide, as well as the 4 AAA batteries it requires (bonus in my book).

Aesthetics
This is a good looking scale. It is sleek, modern, lightweight, and has some very cool features. There are 8 user profiles, which are easy to set up. It reads immediately after you step on it, no need to tap it. It has an LED backlit screen, which makes reading the information easy, especially if you weigh yourself in the dark, and while its design is pleasing to the eye, it is also quite sturdy and has a 400lb capacity.

Not a fan of the airbrushed model with the thumbs-up but I’m reviewing the product, not the marketing. Clearly.

Accuracy
Accuracy or more like reliability of this scale receives good marks. I stepped on and off this scale numerous times, and the results were the same/very close each time. Along with the 8 user profiles, it stores your first weigh-in and then compares it to subsequent weigh-ins, giving you the difference in lbs/kg and a percentage. You don’t have to choose your profile, just step on and it will find your profile based on your weight (within 6.6lbs +/-) so you don’t have to fumble with buttons. If you and someone you love (obviously you love them if you are sharing your scale right?), also share the same body weight, it will show you the profile numbers side by side and then you can choose which one is yours with the selector arrows. I must include, the scale is said to be best used on concrete, hardwood (not engineered wood), marble or 12×12″ ceramic tile for accuracy. If your home is carpet, engineered hardwood or types linoleum this may not provide the most accurate readings.

Affordability
List price on Amazon for this scale is $99.95, then their price is $79.95, and finally as of right now you can get yourself a deal for $44.95 & it’s eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping! At first I thought this may be on the pricey end, but after browsing around, this is pretty competitive (at the sale price), especially with the progress tracking abilities.

Additionals
On the back of the scale is the ‘unit’ button, where you can change from pounds to kilograms. Also on the back is a support number and email, handy for when you ‘file’ that instruction manual. Speaking of said manual, it is easy to follow with provides the general information for operating, troubleshooting and features, as well as the warranty.

FYI: That is nail polish, not black toe

My opinion, it’s a nice scale, and it looks good on the floor, which, when you are stylish like me {insert belly laugh}, is important. It says, ‘bathroom’ scale, but I keep it in my office. I’m sure they say that so you don’t use it to weigh food… I think scales in general are useful to track progress to a certain degree but in the wrong hands they can be tools of self-destruction; hindering positive body image, and contributing to unhealthy relationship with said scale, and self-esteem. For that reason, my scale is in my office, not my bathroom, where I would be at my most vulnerable {naked & near a mirror} and most likely to take the reading, turn around, grab some ‘not so tight’ body part and feel horrible. I used to worry about reaching a number on a scale, now I focus on being healthy, and strong, and use my body weight readings for very few things, for instance, a part of a body composition formula and to calculate my lifts for CrossFit…

Great review. I might be getting one soon if my 4-yo keeps dragging my body fat monitor scale around the bedroom by its cord and handles :)
